OMAHA HIGH PLAYING TIPS

By admin

The game of Omaha high is very similar to Omaha Holdem and Texas Holdem in many ways. Though the game is similar to Texas Holdem, it is very different from the other games. Like Holdem, the game of Omaha high is also a community card game. The players here share the cards on the board. In Holdem, however, each player deals with 4 holes or down cards and the player must use exactly 2 cards from his hole cards and also 3 cards from the board to make a 5 card poker hand. The whole version can be named as hi-lo but in Omaha high, only the high version of the game is determined.

The game is fairly easy to follow and does not require a lot of time in learning to play the game. There are certain rules that you must abide by and that could change the turn of events and you can learn to play the game very well. Mastering the game could take some time though. Learning the strategies is one thing while applying them at the right time requires mastering of the game. The game of Omaha high requires a 52 card deck, 2 to 10 players, a dealer button and chips. If you can get hold of these, you can begin a session of the game anytime you like.

Few tips that might come in handy once you play the game are that Ace-Ace-King-Queen double suited is the best starting hand in Omaha high. This combination works wonders for your game and if you get hold of this combination, you can be sure that your day is made. The good starting hands in Omaha high are: four card connectors (10-J-Q-K) suited Aces, two pairs of any cards as long as one of them is high. The Omaha hands are played much in a similar fashion like Texas Holdem. There are some basic differences that separate the two.

In Texas Holdem there are two down cards, four of which are dealt and followed by a betting round. In the next betting round, a three cards flop follows. The next turn has one card turn card. Finally there is a fifth river card followed by another round of betting. In the showdown, all the players whose cards are not shown have to show their cards.

In Omaha high, the showdown has five card hands which are created by use of exactly two cards from a player’s hands and exactly three cards from the from the board cards. A player has to show all of his four cards in order to qualify for the winning pot. If the player shows only two cards and discards the other two, the hand of the player is dead and the player has to forfeit the claim to the winning pot. In the game, the player can not “play the board” as he can in Texas Holdem.

The game is really fun to play and has stood the test of time. After so many decades, the game still stands a winner among the hearts of the players.
